A 16‑year‑old girl killed in a hit‑and‑run in Co Meath was among seven people who died on Irish roads within a 24‑hour period, marking one of the darkest days of the year so far.

Mia Lily Keogh O’Keeffe had been walking her dog near her home on the Slane Road in Navan when she was struck by a car at a pedestrian crossing about 8.20pm on Saturday. Her dog also died in the tragedy.
